Through screendance, I am fascinated by the nuanced, hybrid format that emerges through film and dance. Capturing raw, human expression through an embodied camera and translating choreographic concepts into the editing process creates a more tangible, ephemeral viewing experience.
I am interested in reimagining new possibilities for audiences to experience movement and dance by framing, and reframing, human embodiment and perspectives through the camera lens.
Exploring this hybrid form of dance and film allows me to cross boundaries and discover qualitative embodiments of trust, intimacy, sensitivity, and tension. I utilize the dance camera lens as a mirror to reveal themes or ideas we don’t always notice, or acknowledge, about ourselves, our environment, and our social culture in general.
Screendance provides the viewer a platform for accessing a level of intimate, embodied awareness they would not otherwise gain through forms of live dance performance and new media.
